FS#6342 — Connecting the data center of Strasbourg (SBG)
Scheduled Maintenance Report for Network & Infrastructure
Completed
We will finalize the work that will enable us to ping the data center of Strabsourg. Work began Tuesday 7/02 from about 18:30 CET. The operation involves inserting a new chassis Infinera (DTN) on the link instead of an amplification site. This DTN will allow us to create new 10G circuits between Strasbourg, Paris and Frankfurt but also new links sdirecte Strasbourg <> Roubaix through the existing optical backbone.

Procedure:
- around 18:30, we interrupt our fiber link Paris <> Frankfurt at the level of the OLA of Strasbourg. We implement an optical bypass of the website and recover the equipment (spare)
- always around 18:30, two teams are into place to work on the cable (given the current temperatures in Strasbourg, we must implement a heating system to be able to weld the fiber)
- From 20:00, the work on the cable starts: we cut the fiber pair on two places to weld the two new cables that go \"poper\" the datacentre
- In //, technicians involved to replace the modules DCM (correction of chromatic dispersion) at different OLA sites in France (Xouaxange) and Germany (Sollingen and Lorsch). Due to the introduction of a new chassis Infinera DTN, the design changes as the signal will be completely regenerated now in Strasbourg
- Once the welding operations are completed (around 21h?), New links Paris <> Strasbourg and Strasbourg <> Frankfurt signaled. We may then ping the new routers, sbg-1-6k and sbg-5-6k.

Update(s):

Date: 2012-02-24 09:47:33 UTC
Link fra-5 <> sbg-3b is up. Securing the connection is complete.

Date: 2012-02-24 09:45:49 UTC
The connection is completed. Links Paris <> Frankfurt restored. We are mounting lambdas Strasbourg <> Frankfurt.

Date: 2012-02-23 21:48:16 UTC
The welding operations are in progress.

Date: 2012-02-23 21:46:08 UTC
We finish tonight the connection working of the DC with the welding of the second fiber to Frankfurt. We have the green light to intervene on the cable starting from 22:30. The link should be up short before 23:00.

Date: 2012-02-08 07:59:40 UTC
Welding work is completed and the link Paris <> Strasbourg is established. The new DTN is operational. We set the first 10G circuits.

Concerning the connection of the cable to Frankfurt: it will not be possible to weld the potion of the cable to the OVH data and thus make the connection. Temperatures are in fact so low that ice is formed inside the sheath and prevent us from retrieving the necessary mou on the cable. We'll have to wait until the temperature back down to pull the cable and weld it.

The working are in progress. the bypass of the amplification site of Strasbourg is done, the moving of the DCM modul on Sollingen too.
Bad news , the connection of the cable to Frankfurt will not be possible (more details to come).
The teams are in position at the level at the interco room to connect our cable from Paris to the new datacenter.

Because of the temperatures (-10°), a specific heating system was set up in order to weld (the fiber was brittle because of the cold).
We just had the go of Interoute to open the box, the welding operations should start soon.

We performed the changes at the level of DCM on Lorsch. The link is operational, we've increased the 10G Paris <> Frankfurt. This will prevent us from going through this site during the night. Next step, Strasbourg for the installation of DTN in the new OVH data.

Date: 2012-02-07 13:06:51 UTC
Our team arrives on the site Lorsch, we will begin work.

We will interrupt the link Paris <> Frankfurt.
